Watching …

We’re a little late to this party but Steve and I have been absolutely hooked on Breaking Bad. All of our friends were fans and we had missed the first season so it was difficult for us to initially get into it, knowing the time we’d have to invest to catch up. And we were absolutely correct on the time it would but incorrect in assuming it wouldn’t be worth the investment. This show is absolutely amazing! We have made it through seasons one, two and are halfway through three in a little under two weeks. There are nights we will watch five or six episodes and at 47 minutes a piece on Netflix, that’s still a hefty time commitment. But we’ll be like, “One more episode” then it will end on a cliffhanger and we’re like, “We’ve got to know what’s going on!” I will say, it is really bleak and depressing to watch. Like, not in an awful way but in a way where I’m wondering how I’m finding such pleasure in a show that never seems to have a happy ending. Also, how am I enjoying  this when every minute, I want to punch Skylar in her big fat meddling nosy frowny face. I wish she would die but I’ve seen previews for season 5 and she’s still there so that makes me sad. So hopefully we’ll be able to catch up before the fifth season premieres in ten days. Though I’m not sure if I could handle not being able to immediately start the next episode after the kind of cliffhangers they have.

House of Horror

In this house, we do horror.

Horror is one of Steve’s favorite movie genres. It’s not my preferred one but I certainly don’t mind it. The slasher flicks are my favorite – I can sit down and watch a good old-fashioned knife-stabbing, blood shedding film any time of the year. The ones I have more of a problem with are the paranormal fantasy types because those scare the ever living shit out of me. (I’m looking at you Paranormal Activities). We are big fans of the classics and Steve, much to my chagrin sometimes, loves the B-movies – things like El Chupacabra takes Manhatten while Being Afraid of the Dark [1. Not a real movie, but you get my drift! :-)]

We do Halloween. When we lived in Pennsylvania we spent the entire month of October visiting any haunt that was within in a two hour radius [1. Shocktoberfest, Arasapha Farms, Jason’s Woods and Field of Screams were some of our favorites – in that order!]. We watched all of the scary movies AMC would play constantly. We spent weeks prepping our costumes, tons of money in the Halloween Adventure stores and went to as many events as we were invited to. This past year we dressed up for a party and to help my parents in their neighborhood haunted house.  Steve was Jason Vorhees and chased kids with a chainsaw – loved every minute of it!

If you look back at that post, you’ll see Steve in his hockey mask. That mask was actually one he borrowed from my parents. It’s simple white plastic one that I’m sure they purchased from a costume store. We have one just like it somewhere. But for the longest time, Steve has been jonesing for a real one – one that looks all worn and authentic like in the movies but is light enough to wear. He thought he had been successful when he picked one up from Toys-R-Us, but that one ended up being a bit campy and really heavy.

A Christmas Story

Smiling’s My Favorite!

We all have them and we all are probably able to argue with anyone why one trumps the other. Some sit solely in the classics arena and regard anything contemporary with contempt. Others like the new modern movies, the ones that were integral parts of our childhood. But regardless, if you ask anyone to name a favorite, I’m sure they can pick one right off the top of their immediately.

We are not any different in my house and every Christmas Eve we make a point to sit down with some eggnog and rum or wine, in my case, in our Christmas Eve pajamas and watch as many of these movies as we can. It doesn’t matter that we may have already seen them earlier in the holiday season. We have to watch these on Christmas Eve or it won’t feel like Christmas.

Stranded at the Drive-In

There’s a drive-in about an hour away from here in Beaufort that Steve and I like to visit on a leisurely Saturday night.  For the price of $6 per person, you get two new release movies.  And their snack bar has an abundance of really good yet reasonably priced junk food.  So we usually make an afternoon out of it – get there early, eat some dinner then settle in for two movies and head home afterward.

A couple of weekends ago we went to see The Green Lantern (eh!) and the Hangover II (double eh!).  And I had to document our journey, mostly because I was bored waiting for the movies to start.
