Even though I hate moving in general, I’ve always loved the moments right after you get into a new place and start unloading everything. The idea of a clean slate and a fresh outlook makes me happy and gives me hope. Even if I might be working with some old materials.
It took me a long time to make this decision and part of me is still wondering if I made the right one. Then again, it’s just a website, a domain – a small mostly insignificant virtual space in the world. It’s not the end of the world if it doesn’t work out.
I began my last domain when I was 20 years old and I had been there for the past ten years. Towards the end, my writing and participation was waning and I didn’t know if it was due to a mere lack of interest in the “sport” as a whole or just boredom with the domain. So I figured I’d make the leap, get a whole new domain and sort of rebrand myself, see if that helps jump start some of the inspiration.
Of course, I forgot what it was like trying to come up with a name, particularly ten years later when most of the good ones are already taken. I considered so many things, some that alluded to my Southern location and my Yankee upbringing, some that referenced my entrance into a new decade. I had some good ones but alas, none of them were available.
Thus, I bring you four23.org.
Why four23, you ask?
April 23 is my birthday. Simple. Easy. And displayed that way for stylistic purposes only.
My old domain, Kallure, was just a word I made up when I trying to be individual and unique and I figured I’d just slap my first initial on the word allure (because my awesome, naive 20 year old self thought I was alluring and mysterious) and boom, new identity. And it has become my identity – I use it as my screen name and login name and avatar anywhere I need something like that. I like it still for those purposes (mostly because it guarantees I always get the username I want since it’s rare that someone else has taken it) but it was time for me to spread my wings at least with regards to where I blog.
So here we go! Welcome, thanks for stopping by. Update your feed readers. Leave me some comments. Browse around.
Alot of the content is the same but content is static, posts are not and it’s the posts that I hope will be unique and more frequent. Also, starting new helps me get a better handle on the organization of the site and possibly use things like tags and categories the way they were meant to be used. And four23 just better fits with me and where I’m at in my life. Kallure will probably stay up for a bit, at least until I’m over paying for it to be hosted. But from now on, you can find me writing here. All my social media and sharing sites have stayed the same though.
I’m not quite ready to give it up completely apparently!
