Just Keep Living

Happy Sunday!

How was your weekend? Can you believe it’s July already? It really seems like time just flies by so quickly these days, these months, these years.  I mean, June itself was just kind of a ridiculously busy time for us, between going through my Grandpa’s illness and subsequent passing and then my traveling to St. Louis and us having people in to visit and throwing a Third of July party.

I am exhausted.

And that’s why we’ve done nothing this weekend. NOTHING.  Except Friday we drove about 30 minutes out to get some pizza at our favorite pizza joint (JI Pizza, it is so delicious and the closest thing to the corner shop pizza we grew up on in Philly – definitely worth the drive).  Other than that, the only time I even went outside and left the house was when I went to McDonald’s to pick up breakfast (in my PJ pants and t-shirt; drive-thru FTW!).  I reorganized the office, played with the pups, did some laundry, shoved chips in my mouth because I’m too lazy to make real food and drank some (read: a bottle) of wine while surfing the Internet and watching movies and shitty reality TV.

So a successful weekend.  Exactly what I needed.

Regardless, I know most of my updates haven’t really been about life as it is now because I’ve really been out and living it – or surviving it, whichever way you’d put it.  I say down a week or two ago and spent an afternoon writing up those posts (love the ability to schedule them!) so I figured I’d take some time today to write a little more and give y’all some updates because well, I know you care!

On Work: I’ve been at this new job for five months and so far, I’m loving it and am so, so glad I made the decision to put myself out there and take a chance.  I am four miles from home so my commute is non-existent.  I work 8 to 4:30.  I don’t have to work nights or weekends or have my work email come to my phone so when I leave work, I leave it there. I’m making quite a bit more money too. The people are great, the work is pretty straight-forward and easy and allows me to be independent and a self starter.  There are a couple of drawbacks, just people situations that I have to learn to deal with but they are manageable.  AND I just found out I’m getting a raise so YAY!

On the Pups: Oh my word, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love having two dogs and how lucky we got with Baxter! He is too freaking cute for words and he still has such puppy tendencies – he follows us around the house, he has to cuddle right up in the crook of your arms and he just overall LOVES US so much and is always so excited when we are around and concerned when we’re not.  We definitely have to continue to train him – for the most part he’s house trained but we’ve kept him crated during the day when we’re gone.  He likes to chew everything so we’re trying to positively reinforce him to chew only things we want him to (not our hands or shoes but bones and stuff).  There’s also some dominance issues him and Sammy are trying to work through – we’re trying to emphasize that Sammy is the dominant one but also kind of let them work through it themself.  Sammy is pretty good with him – he’s ten years old though so he’s a bit of a grumpy old man and when he doesn’t want to play, he doesn’t want to play.  I think he enjoys the company though.  And I’m hoping they’ll work it out and become best buddies.

On TV: I usually enjoy summer because there’s not any new TV on (I LOVE my favorite shows pretty hard but I do enjoy not having to make time to watch them) but then I forget about things like True Blood and Rescue Me.  With True Blood, we’re only two episodes in and I’m not quite sure if I’m feeling it yet.  But of course, I’ll continue watching because I usually wait until a show is barely gasping for breath before I let it go. Rescue Me, however, starts this week and I’m insanely excited about it.  This will be the last season and I’m hoping it’s going to be epic.  I will contend that F/X has some of the best programming on TV – almost every one of their shows is phenomenal (Rescue Me, Sons of Anarchy, Always Sunny, The League, Justified, Louie).  Plus, Teen Mom is back with the original trainwrecks that I can’t quit.  The same with Real Housewives of NJ and Mob Wives.  So yea, summer no longer has that luxury of not wanting to watch new TV.  I’m going to have to do a separate TV post just so I can babble about all of these shows I want to talk about.

On Life in General: Next weekend, I’ll be in Myrtle Beach with some girlfriends where we pretty much intend on laying by the pool, drinking a bunch of frozen concoctions and gossiping.  As I said above, we had a busy week here – we had a big party on Sunday that I think was a success.  We had people in town so we went to the beach and the aquarium and saw fireworks on the 4th.  It was a nice time but I think I’m ready for summer to be over.  It’s been so hot here that I want to be able to wear jeans and hoodies and be all cozy.  But one step at a time.  For now, I just plan on enjoying my summer and spending time with my Wolfpack and making good memories.
